His impressive career boasts over $750 million in secured philanthropic investments, each one meticulously cultivated through his strategic vision and mastery of principal gift fundraising. With six successful comprehensive campaigns throughout his career, Al doesn’t simply dream big; he turns those dreams into reality, leading organizations to unprecedented heights of fundraising success.

At Samuel Merritt University (SMU), Al crafted a comprehensive advancement program that saw donor engagement skyrocket by 64%. He secured the two largest gifts in SMU history, shattering fundraising records in 2022 and 2023.

His innovative spirit at Sacramento State University led to a 70% increase in board giving and secured the university’s two largest gifts ever, propelling a triumphant $200 million capital campaign.

At Marquette University, Al spent 16+ years designing, implementing, and leading innovative new programs in regional major gift development, principal gifts, and strategic campaign creation. This laid the groundwork for a triumphant $60 million athletics capital campaign as well as a $170 million university-wide effort.

Al’s expertise extends well beyond development. His portfolio at SMU and Sac State also included university marketing and communications. He understands the importance of communications in fundraising, and he has a writer’s knack for storytelling. His vision and leadership ensured comprehensive growth by leveraging powerful brand identities at esteemed institutions.

Al’s passion extends beyond his professional achievements. He actively contributes his expertise to organizations like Cristo Rey High School, Students Rising Above, Nativity Jesuit Middle School, Roots Community Health Center, and Variety Wisconsin, leaving a lasting impact through his volunteer and board service.

Al is a trusted friend, partner, and mentor, offering exceptional fundraising acumen, strategic leadership, and a shared commitment to institutional values. His vibrant energy and unwavering enthusiasm make him an invaluable ally in the pursuit of a better world.

Al splits his time between Northern California and Wisconsin, where he lives with his wife, Nancy, and their dog, Archie. Their adult children, Matthew and Grace, reside in Chicago and Milwaukee, respectively. He’s an avid golfer, a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, and a skilled pizza and bread baker.
